Espada Medieval Bannockburn

The Battle of Bannockburn (23 and 24 June 1314), was a momentous Scottish victory against the English in the Wars of Scottish Independence. Scottish King Robert I consolidated his power and regained Scottish independence, which lasted until the 17th century. Robert Bruce's troops had prepared at Bannockburn to witness the peace agreement between the then English king and his Scottish sovereign.

Since the negotiation was unsuccessful, the Scots charged into the fields against the English. In that battle, thousands of English died, giving a huge victory to Scotland, thanks to which they also achieved their long-awaited independence. Hypotheses are being considered about the participation of a large group of Templars commanded by Pierre d'Aumont. In any case, the result was that an army of 6,500 soldiers defeated another composed of more than 20,000.

Six months after the execution of the Scottish rebel leader William Wallace, Robert Bruce emerged as the new leader against the English invaders. On 25 March 1306 Robert Bruce was crowned king as Robert I of Scotland. Edward I of England was quick to react and sent an expedition against Bruce that forced him to flee north, living in hiding and preparing for war in the way Wallace had done. In May 1307 Robert Bruce managed to defeat the English at the Battle of Loudoun Hill. On July 7, 1307, Edward I died and the English army mostly retreated by order of his successor Edward II, son of the previous one. Robert Bruce took advantage of the circumstances to promote an insurrection and attacked the English detachments that remained in Scotland as a guerrilla force. In 1310, King Edward sent an expedition to put an end to the rebels, managing to regain control of the area.

In 1313 Robert Bruce resumed the fight and attacked the castles in English power, conquering one after another. But the English stopped their advance before Stirling Castle, governed by Philip Mowbray, the most important in the area. In response to the attacks Edward sent an army of 3,000 knights and 20,000 infantry commanded by himself who would confront Bruce's small army, of only 6,500 combatants.
