We know that the saber is a white weapon similar to the sword, but somewhat curved and usually with a single cut. It is known in the game of fencing as the iron sword, without polish or cut, with a button on the tip. The modern saber is, along with the epee and the foil, one of the three fencing weapons.
The fencing saber derives from the saber, a weapon used by cavalry soldiers. Hits or points can be achieved by ramming with the tip or producing a cut with the edge of the blade. The valid target is the entire body from the waist up, including the head and arms. Saber attacks are the fastest and most agile in fencing, so they require good physical fitness.
The fencing saber measures a maximum of 105 cm and should not exceed 500 grams. It has a bowl-shaped guard, which curves under the hand, and a T-shaped blade in cross section. The blade is 88 cm long. It is quadrangular with a 4 mm by 1.2 mm trench. The blade can be curved as long as it does not pass a 4 cm arrow.
The master of the art of fencing is also called the master of weapons. Fencing is a combat sport in which two opponents face each other and must try to touch each other with a sharp weapon, depending on which three modalities are differentiated: saber, epee and foil. Its definition is "art of defense and attack with a sword, foil or similar weapon."
Modern fencing is a sport of entertainment and competition, but it follows the rules and techniques that were originally developed for efficient sword handling in duels.
The word comes from the verb to fence, and this in turn from the Germanic verb skermjan, which means to repair or protect. The opponents are called shooters. When a shooter is touched by the opponent's weapon, he receives a point.
